Biography
Brett manages finance at Boron Specialties (boron.com). The company is a leader in the manufacture of boron-based specialty chemicals and materials, and it serves as an advanced technology development partner for customers in life science, defense, electronics, materials, and scientific research markets.
Previously, Brett was VP for Science and Technology and a member of the senior leadership team at Battelle, a $5 billion research enterprise. He managed corporate R&D investments that created growth and strengthened Battelle’s technical capabilities and intellectual capital. Brett was the corporate liaison to Battelle Ventures and its portfolio companies, and managed technology commercialization for Battelle’s Global Laboratory Operations division. He also served as Battelle’s acting CFO during 2017-18.
Previously, Brett held management positions in the chemical and life sciences industry, including as director of operations for Siemens Molecular Imaging Biomarker Research and as general manager of Callery Chemical, a specialty chemical manufacturer. He has additional experience as the finance leader at several venture-backed startups in chemistry and life-science markets, and as a group leader at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center.
Brett earned an MBA in Finance from Carnegie Mellon University and a BS in Computer Science from National University, and he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is currently a member of the boards and chair of the audit committees of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Brookhaven National Laboratory, and previously served on the board of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (chair, Commercialization Committee) and the Research Advisory Board of the University of Missouri.
